Enough, Moderation, Abundance

Enough? It depends. If you're wondering, do more.

Moderation (thoughts about why moderation might not be a great goal)

Abundance—not a new page, but seems a perfect #3 link to go with "Enough?" and "Moderation."

Responses, trees from seeds, What if?

About responding to curious others, I've added something new by Karen James, up top.

Apple tree analogy, and the nature of wholeness (Karen James, Sandra Dodd, your thoughts, your child)

What if? What if you leave laundry in the washer? What if you dig a hole in your yard?
What if you don't send a child to school for a year? Thinking about wondering "What if?"

Parenting Peacefully, Threes, 404 page change

Addition of a link a great quote by Meredith Novak, bottom:
(first addition to that page for years)

This page isn't very important, but if I don't note it here, I might lose it.

Something has been added to my error page (a.k.a. 404 page). IF the URL was once good but has failed, there should be a link to an archived copy at the Wayback Machine site. If you would like to check it out, this is a link that will show you the new feature (which was provided by
The current URL for that is chores/gift (not chore/gift).

Notes on that:
#1, I very rarely change a URL.
#2, Most errors are people guessing, or entering a link with a typo.
#3, Guessing often works.
#4, if the page is not at the Wayback Machine, that message won't show at all.

Generosity, Interview, Phrases

New by Karen James, third item down. Page reformatted to make it easier to read on smaller devices.

Shakespeare, Bedtimes, Mindfulness, Change

2/10/16 Step up and see photo IMG_1462.jpg
Sarah Clark on her daughter Jenna's unexpected connections with Shakespeare and Chaucer, added near the bottom of this fun page:

New by Emily Strength, and parenting and bedtime, second or third item down here:

New by Karen James, about time, attention and energy—about patient, loving attention.

Addition of a quote from Just Add Light, to a page it had been linked to, but wasn't actually on; now 1/3 of the way down.

I'm grateful that Marta Pires saved the quote and brought it back out today, which inspired me to give it a good home.

I think I wrote it for a "Just Add Light and Stir" post in 2011. I didn't find it in the discussions.
[LATER NOTE: Page 194 of The Big Book of Unschooling—Debbie Harper found it.]
Change a moment. Change one touch, one word, one reaction. If you try to change your entire self so that next year will be better, you might become overwhelmed and discouraged and distraught.

Change one thing. Smile one sweet smile. Say one kind thing.

If that felt good, do it again. Rest. Watch. Listen. You're a parent because of your child. Your child. You should be his parent, or her parent. Not a generic parent, or a hypothetical parent. Be your child's parent in each moment that you interact with her.

Principles and priorities, boredom, stress (avoidance)

New by Debbie Regan on the Priorities page; I couldn't decide whether to put it under priorities, principles or deschooling! It's all of those.

New page, Karen James on how she helps Ethan if he's bored. SO gentle.

Video on the effects of stress on one's brain and on one's children, from TED-Ed, added to the bottom of the negativity page:

A to Zed song, Label avoidance, Benefit from discussion

In a discussion of learning the alphabet, and so many songs and videos having "zee" rather than "zed," Jane Clossick offered an British alternative and I have her notes and a sound file here:
I've also added two great alphabet songs by Kermit the Frog (Jim Henson), with lyrics! (This page was moved out of the reading folder, where it was never linked, so it's a little like new.)

New from Alex Polikowsky, reminder to parents, third on the left:

Two new accounts added to a page called "Learning to read on the list"
(The new stuff's at the bottom!)
